GUEST LECTURE “Mastering Quantitative Research: From Data Treatment to Diagnostic Testing” Improves Students' Research Methodology Competence
The Master of Accounting Student Association (HMMA) of the Faculty of Economics and Business, Universitas Airlangga collaborated with the Doctoral Student Association of Accounting in organizing a Guest Lecture activity entitled "Mastering Quantitative Research: From Data Treatment to Diagnostic Testing" on Friday, June 5, 2025 at the FEB UA Building, Room 205.This activity presented MD Mahmudul Alam, PhD, Professor from BRAC Business School, as a resource person who will share knowledge and experience regarding quantitative research data management and the implementation of various diagnostic tests required in academic research.
This activity is held as an effort to improve students' research capacity, particularly in understanding the proper stages of data processing and the application of quantitative analysis methods in accordance with academic standards. As demands for quality research at the master's and doctoral levels increase, a deep understanding of data treatment and diagnostic testing processes is a crucial skill for students in producing valid, reliable research with strong scientific contributions.
The event will begin at 8:00 a.m. WIB (Western Indonesian Time) with a series of events including presentations, case studies, interactive discussions, and a question-and-answer session. Speakers will cover various important aspects of quantitative research, from data preparation and handling of incomplete data to outlier identification and testing statistical assumptions such as normality, multicollinearity, heteroscedasticity, and autocorrelation. Participants will also gain insight into best practices in using statistical software to support research data analysis.
This activity, which focuses not only on technical aspects, also aims to strengthen students' critical thinking and analytical skills in interpreting research results. Through direct interaction with experienced international academics, participants are expected to understand how appropriate methodology can improve research quality and increase the chances of publication in reputable scientific journals.
In addition, this activity supports the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), especially point 4 (Quality Education) through strengthening academic and research capacity, point 9 (Industry, Innovation, and Infrastructure) through improving data-based research competencies, and point 17 (Partnerships for the Goals) through international academic collaboration that encourages the exchange of knowledge and experience across institutions.
As a reflection, the Guest Lecture "Mastering Quantitative Research: From Data Treatment to Diagnostic Testing" is expected to be a learning tool that can strengthen students' methodological competencies in conducting quantitative research. Through this activity, HMMA FEB UNAIR together with the Accounting Doctoral Program Student Association are committed to continuing to present relevant, high-quality, and impactful academic programs for research development and increasing students' academic competitiveness at the national and international levels.
