The Association of Economic and Policy Researchers (ARSITEK) of the Faculty of Economics and Business Universitas Airlangga through its Research Division, is holding a national essay competition called "Ideanomics" to develop students' capacities in research, policy analysis, and scientific writing. This activity is motivated by the challenges of Indonesia's economic transformation, which is currently facing the phenomenon of premature deindustrialization, namely the declining contribution of the manufacturing sector before achieving high income levels. This problem reflects the still weak competitiveness of the national industry, the less than optimal industrial upgrading process, and the existence of various structural issues that affect Indonesia's economic development. On the other hand, it is necessary to strengthen students' capacity to produce analyses and ideas supported by data and a comprehensive argumentative framework on national strategic economic issues.
This activity is expected to enable students to generate critical, innovative, and solution-oriented ideas in response to the challenges of deindustrialization and encourage the transformation towards a value-added economy. Furthermore, this activity also aims to improve students' ability to compose systematic, argumentative, and research-based scientific essays. Ideanomics is expected to become a competitive platform for students to develop the quality of their thinking, analytical acumen, and originality of their ideas in formulating solutions to various strategic national economic issues. This activity is packaged as a national essay competition that provides participants with space to submit policy recommendations that are applicable and relevant to the current state of the Indonesian economy.
The Ideanomics program is held online and targets all university students in Indonesia. The series of activities begins with the publication and registration stage, through the submission of essays, the judging process by the jury, and the announcement of the winners. All stages are designed objectively and transparently to select the best works based on analytical rigor, data utilization, originality, theme relevance, and the quality of the solutions offered. Furthermore, the best works will be published through ARSITEK's social media channels to disseminate ideas to the public. Through this activity, it is hoped that students will actively contribute to generating ideas and policy recommendations as young academics contribute to Indonesia's economic development.
