KBMI 2020

NARRATIVE OF THE IMPLEMENTATION OF KBMI 2020

The Indonesian economy requires a diverse range of entrepreneurial professions to thrive. To foster the entrepreneurial spirit and skills of Indonesian students, the Directorate of Learning and Student Affairs (Belmawa), Directorate General of Higher Education, Ministry of Education and Culture of the Republic of Indonesia, organizes various Independent Campus Programs. Through the spirit of Independent Learning and Independent Campus, the Entrepreneurship Program consists of Entrepreneurship Workshops, Indonesian Student Business Management Activities (KBMI), Indonesian Student Start-Up Acceleration (ASMI), and mentoring by Practitioners/Entrepreneurs and lecturers through the Indonesian Student Entrepreneurship Mentoring (PWMI).

Students participating in the 2020 KBMI and ASMI continued to be mentored by practitioners and lecturers, hoping to strengthen and grow their businesses, which would then lead to the culmination of the Indonesian Student Entrepreneurship (KMI) Expo. The KMI Expo serves as a meeting place for Indonesian students equipped with the knowledge to showcase their creativity and build business networks.

The 2020 KBMI activity took place from June, starting with the proposal submission and ending with the 2020 KMI Expo XI on December 5th. During the proposal submission period, we also received guidance from our supervising lecturer, Mrs. Tri Siwi, and also 1 mentor so that we could complete the proposal well. After the selection process, on July 29, 2020, the teams that passed the 2020 KBMI funding were announced and we were one of the teams that passed the funding by receiving funds of Rp16,000,000 (sixteen million rupiah).

The business we used in KBMI 2020 is Choipan Surabaya. Choipan Surabaya is a culinary venture initiated by Universitas Airlangga students since 2017. Choipan Surabaya was born out of the scarcity of choipan as an Indonesian cultural heritage and the lack of public awareness about it. Choipan Surabaya aims to

Introducing choipan as a typical food from West Kalimantan as a food product with authentic taste and high competitiveness in Surabaya.

The 2020 KBMI activity also provided mentoring and monitoring for teams that passed the funding selection process, which was conducted online from July 29, 2020, to October 23, 2020. On October 22, 2020, the Choipan team conducted a KBMI assessment via Zoom Meeting at 9:00 AM. The second stage of the assessment was conducted on November 24, 2020. Before presenting to the judges, the Choipan team also made various preparations, such as compiling a PowerPoint presentation, creating a business progress report, and continuing to receive guidance from the supervising lecturer.

The highlight of the 2020 KBMI activities is the KMI Expo XI 2020 which contains public lectures and entrepreneurship talk shows, Entrepreneurship Workshop Competition, StartUp Summit, and various other activities. Before participating in these activities, the Choipan Surabaya Team must attend Technical meetings which are held twice, namely on November 26, 2020 and December 3, 2020. In the peak event, our team will hold an online choipan product exhibition through the Hopin application and will also participate in the workshop competition.

Our team had to make a lot of preparations leading up to the KBMI summit. To prepare for the online exhibition, our team tested the Hopin app on the day before the event. We also prepared the products we would display at the exhibition and ensured they were in good condition. For the workshop competition, we had to create a short 45-second video on the topic we would be presenting at the workshop. We also had to go through a selection process until we were shortlisted for 20 teams, and we were one of the finalists. After our team made it to the top 20, our team began preparing detailed materials and presenting them attractively in a PowerPoint presentation. Before conducting the workshop in front of the judges, we practiced with our supervisor and other qualified teams from Universitas Airlangga to receive criticism and feedback.

KMI Expo XI 2020 started on December 4, 2020 at 08.00 which started with the opening and inauguration of KMI Expo XI 2020. And continued with the judging

from various competitions. Judging for the workshop competition itself took place from 3:30 PM to 5:00 PM, and we were required to bring an audience, which would be one of the judging points. The online exhibition took place on December 4 and 5, 2020, with our team taking turns manning the booth.

The announcement of the winners for various competitions in KMI Expo XI 2020 was made live through the Hopin App on December 5, 2020. In the workshop competition, our team Choipan Surabaya was awarded as the second place winner and took home a silver medal. Universitas Airlangga in KMI Expo XI 2020 also holds the title of overall champion because of the many awards won by the team issued by Universitas Airlangga.
