College is the highest level in the education system and a new chapter for students transforming into college students. It marks the beginning of their journey into the professional world. New students are faced with many great opportunities to develop their potential and hone their skills.
With high hopes of achieving their goals, they are driven to continue growing into better individuals. This enthusiasm is an important foundation for improving their quality of life, including the potential to become an organizer who is not only active but also reliable. However, new students are often faced with the reality that they are unfamiliar with the world of organizations. This creates hesitation to join and fear of things they don't yet know. This doubt drives them to choose between focusing on academics, organizations, or trying to balance both. In response to this condition, the Student Resource Development Bureau of BEM FEB UNAIR held a work program called "SOBEM".
This program is a valuable opportunity for new students of FEB UNAIR class of 2025, as well as a place for them to undergo an internship at BEM FEB UNAIR for three months. SOBEM aims to provide hands-on experience in the organizational world and expand relationships, by actively contributing in each bureau and department, as well as assisting in the implementation of existing work programs and agendas. Through SOBEM, it is hoped that new students can develop and process into individuals who are ready to face various challenges, have leadership qualities, and understand the organizational structure at the faculty level. Thus, they will be better prepared to become reliable and capable organizers through BEM FEB UNAIR in 2026. The activities of Sobat BEM (SOBEM) support several sustainable development goals (SDGs), including SDG 4 – Quality Education, by providing non-formal education to new students through training, mentoring, and learning organizational systems. This helps them develop critical thinking, communication, and leadership skills. SOBEM also contributes to SGD 5 – Gender Equality, by opening internship opportunities for all genders equally and fairly. The committee and participants are not limited by gender stereotypes in roles or responsibilities.
In addition, SOBEM also supports SDG 8 – Decent Work and Economic Growth, which trains new students with skills useful for the world of work: professionalism, teamwork, and responsibility. This supports the growth of quality human resources for the future of the economy. SOBEM also supports SDG 10 – Reduced Inequality, where this activity is open to all new students without discrimination, providing equal opportunities to develop even though they come from different backgrounds. SOBEM also supports SDG 11 – Sustainable Community City, where SOBEM encourages the creation of an inclusive, active, and sustainable campus community through student involvement in organizations and social activities. SOBEM also supports SDG 16 – Peace, Justice and Resilient Institutions. By introducing organizational systems, work transparency, and values of integrity, SOBEM helps build a healthy and responsible organizational culture. Furthermore, SOBEM also supports SDG 17 – Partnerships to Achieve Goals. SOBEM involves many parties—from mentors, committees, to interns—in close collaboration to achieve common goals. This reflects the importance of partnerships in sustainable development. The aim of the activity is to provide a platform for new students class of 2025 FEB UNAIR to develop and process into individuals who are ready to face various challenges, have a leadership spirit, and understand organizational structures at the faculty level and they will be better prepared to become reliable and capable organizers through BEM FEB UNAIR in 2026. In this way, SOBEM is expected to be able to produce young leaders of quality and character for FEB UNIAR and the wider community
