Thankful and Patient

Suaramuslim.net – It was narrated that Imran bin Hathan had a bad face but nevertheless he had a very beautiful wife. One time his wife looked at her husband and said, "Alhamdulillah." Imran was curious and asked, “Why do you praise Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala?” The wife replied: “Kanda and I will one day be in heaven.” Imran became more and more curious, "Why?" The wife replied, "Because you have been given the sustenance of a wife like myself, then you are grateful for it and I have been given the sustenance of a husband like you, so I am patient. Wouldn't the one who is grateful and patient both be in heaven..."

The story is one of the interesting stories contained in the book 'Heavenly Character Husband and Wife' by Sheikh Muhammad Mutawalli Asy-Syarawi. It is a beauty when we can be grateful and patient with our partner. Be grateful for all his strengths and be patient with all his shortcomings, because that is human and because that is what we are.

Our partners are clothes that cover our shortcomings and beautify our strengths, and vice versa. So the good and bad of our partner is the good and bad of us too. Because clothes reflect ourselves and our soul. The goodness must be grateful for, the bad is a reflection of us that must be corrected. This is implied from the following verse,

"It is lawful for you on the night of the month of fasting to mingle with your wives; They are clothes to you, and you are clothes for them.(Surat al-Baqarah: 187)

May we all be blessed with a happy and happy household. Amen.
