Prof. Madya dr. Mohd Syakir Mohd Rosdi discussed the Islamic Political Economy at Guest Lecture Feb Unair

(FEB News) Ministry of Sharia Economics, Faculty of Economics and Business, Universitas Airlangga (FEB Unair) again held a Guest Lecture activity that presented an international speaker, Prof. Madya Dr. Mohd Syakir Mohd Rosdi, Associate Professor from the Islamic Development and Management Recitation Center (ISDEV), Universiti Sains Malaysia (USM).

This activity took place on Friday, May 23, 2025 in the Maleo Hall, Lt. 3 Ex Pharmacy Building, FEB Airlangga University. Guest Lecture this time raised the theme "Approach to Under the Islamic Political Economy for Islamic States Elected in Southeast Asia".

This lecture conveyed the importance of a critical understanding of the economic approach in the context of the values ​​and structures of contemporary Islamic political.

In his presentation, Prof. Dr. Mohd Syakir discussed in depth the differences in the top-down and bottom-up approaches in the economy, as well as its application in the Islamic political framework, with the state of Brunei Darussalam as the main case study. He highlighted how the system of government based on the concept of Malay Malay Malay (MIB), the vision of the dhikr country, and Brunei 2035's insight, showed the consistency of the application of Islamic values ​​in modern state governance.

"The top-down approach does not conflict with Islamic principles as long as it is carried out with justice and mandate, as did Sultan Brunei in leading his country," said Prof. Syakir in front of the participants.

Prof. Syakir also stressed at the end that economics and politics are two aspects that are side by side in supporting the sustainability of a country. If one element, both experts in the economic and political fields, is not present, then the direction and stability of the state will be disrupted.

This activity was attended by dozens of students from the S1 and S2 Islamic Economics program Feb Unair, who actively discussed and expressed a critical view of the material presented.

Through this discussion, FEB Unair again shows its commitment in providing new insights for students about how the Islamic approach is not only normative, but also applicative in the economic-political governance of a country.
