(FEB NEWS) On Tuesday, July 9, 2024, the Faculty of Economics and Business Universitas Airlangga held an event titled Financial Plan 101 "Master Your Money, Achieve Your Dreams!" at The GADE Creative Lounge on campus, in collaboration with PT. Pegadaian Surabaya Regional Office. This hybrid event aimed to equip students, especially Generation Z, with crucial financial planning knowledge and skills in an era of economic uncertainty.
Ms. Mutiara Pertiwi, Head of the Sales and Marketing Department of PT Pegadaian, Surabaya Regional Office, emphasized the importance of financial planning. "Financial planning isn't just about managing money; it's also about taking concrete action to realize dreams and make the right decisions in risky situations," she said.
In this seminar, participants learned about the short- and long-term benefits of financial planning. Short-term benefits include better planning, reducing unnecessary expenses, and preparing for uncertainty. Meanwhile, the medium- and long-term focus is on preparing for life's necessities, such as marriage, starting a family, and retirement.
The event also discussed financial risks that Generation Z should be aware of, including:
1. Disability due to unexpected accidents
2. Premature death
3. Critical illness
4. Long life without financial preparedness
The speakers provided financial management tips for Generation Z, including:
– Setting financial goals
– Budgeting
– Determining priorities
– Financial recording
– Periodic evaluation
"We also introduce various investment instruments to students," added Dr. Puput Tri Komalasari, SE, M.Si., MM. The instruments discussed include stocks, foreign exchange, mutual funds, property, bonds, gold, deposits, and savings.
Gold, as an investment instrument, received special attention in the discussion due to its perceived low risk and high liquidity. "Gold is inflation-resistant, low-risk, and a durable, tangible asset that's easy to manage and easily converted into cash. It's also worth noting that pawnshops, as financial institutions, also offer a low-capital investment platform through gold," explained Ms. Mutiara Pertiwi, one of the speakers.
The participants' enthusiasm was evident throughout the event. "I just realized how important early financial planning is. This event opened my eyes to the various investment options I can start now," said Annis, a fifth-semester student.
With this "Financial Plan 101" event, the Faculty of Economics and Business Universitas Airlangga hopes to prepare a younger generation to be more financially savvy and ready to face future economic challenges. "Master Your Money, Achieve Your Dreams!" is not just a slogan, but a call to action for Generation Z to begin mastering their finances to realize their dreams.
