
Surabaya, 2 Juni 2025 — The second session of Connect and Consult, an academic series held by the Faculty of Economics and Business, Universitas Airlangga, was successfully conducted with the presence of Professor Grantley Taylor from Curtin University, Australia. The event took place in Room 605, ABC Building, from 3:00 PM to 5:00 PM, and was moderated by Tessa Vanina Soetanto. This event was proudly organized by HIMAPDIA UNAIR as part of its mission to facilitate academic enrichment and global insight for postgraduate students.
In his presentation titled “Research Ideas in Contemporary Tax Area”, Prof. Taylor introduced key concepts in corporate tax avoidance, including mechanisms like transfer pricing, income shifting, and hybrid mismatches. He also discussed high-profile case studies involving multinational corporations such as Apple, Google, and Starbucks. In addition to these insights, Prof. Taylor highlighted emerging research topics such as the influence of corporate culture, executive compensation, ESG structuring, and the integration of artificial intelligence in global tax practices.
Through this forum, HIMAPDIA reaffirmed its role in fostering critical discussions and equipping students with the knowledge to engage in impactful tax research. The session concluded with a dynamic Q&A, where participants explored the policy, ethical, and global implications of corporate tax planning. The event not only provided intellectual stimulus but also strengthened academic collaboration between Universitas Airlangga and global institutions.
