UNAIR DYNAMIC SPARKS COLLABORATION AND INNOVATION ACROSS ASIA

Surabaya – The Faculty of Economics and Business at Universitas Airlangga (FEB UNAIR) once again demonstrated its commitment to strengthening global collaboration through its flagship annual program, Discover Youth Industrial Innovation and Management at Airlangga’s Course (DYNAMIC), held from August 4 to 7, 2025. This year’s program brought together 30 international students from top universities across Asia.

In her opening remarks, Dr. Martha Ranggi Primanthi, Head of the International Office at FEB UNAIR, emphasized that DYNAMIC is not merely an academic forum, but a platform for idea exchange and cross-border collaboration. “We hope this program not only provides new insights but also offers meaningful experiences and strengthens participants’ connections with Indonesia,” she said.

Participants joined from Eastern Visayas State University and Davao del Norte State College (Philippines), Indian Institute of Technology Bombay (India), as well as Universiti Putra Malaysia, Universiti Malaysia Perlis, and Universiti Tun Hussein Onn Malaysia. Over four days, they took part in a variety of activities spanning academic lectures, industry exposure, and rich cultural experiences.

One of the most memorable sessions featured a public lecture by Dr. Miguel Angel Esquivias Padilla, lecturer at the Department of Economics, FEB UNAIR, titled “Navigating Technology Disruption: Transforming Indonesia’s Business Landscape for a Sustainable Future.” In his presentation, Dr. Miguel stressed the importance of embracing digital technologies—from artificial intelligence to big data analytics—as essential tools to maintain business competitiveness. He also encouraged businesses to see technological disruption as a driver for sustainable growth, while upholding social and environmental responsibility. “The key lies in combining technological advancement with a commitment to people and the planet,” he asserted.

DYNAMIC UNAIR 2025 was designed with a holistic approach. Participants were introduced to the academic environment through a tour of UNAIR’s Campus B, a visit to the Ethnography Museum, and an interactive gamelan music workshop. In the field of entrepreneurship, students joined a talk show with successful alumni facilitated by the Airlangga Startup and Innovation Incubator (ATAVI).

Cultural exploration was another key component of the program. Participants toured Surabaya’s historic Old Town and the Heroes Monument, and took part in a closing cultural performance. During the event, groups from each country showcased traditional performances, emphasizing unity through cultural diversity.

Equally engaging were the industry visits to GOJEK and PT Pertamina Patra Niaga, where participants gained firsthand insights into technological innovations within Indonesia’s digital and energy sectors. These visits enabled students to better understand how Indonesian industries are adopting technology to address global challenges while generating positive social impact.

The DYNAMIC program delivered significant benefits for both participants and the Faculty of Economics and Business at Universitas Airlangga. For the international students, it provided a platform to expand global networks, strengthen leadership skills, and develop empathy and intercultural understanding. For FEB UNAIR—and UNAIR as a whole—the program reinforced its standing as an institution that actively promotes international collaboration, innovation, and experiential learning.

The relationships formed, ideas exchanged, and cross-cultural experiences shared during DYNAMIC are expected to serve as a bridge for long-term collaboration—not only among individuals, but also between institutions and nations. Through inclusive and innovative education, UNAIR continues to affirm its role as a catalyst for meaningful change at both local and global levels. Writer: Tommy Hani Tria Putra
