Abstract

This research aims to examine the mediating role of achievement motivation on the influence of entrepreneurs' self-efficacy and subjective norms on SMEs' external financing decisions. The sample for this research was 180 entrepreneurs who were determined using purposive sampling. Data was collected using a questionnaire and then analyzed using SEM-PLS. The results of this research show that 1) Entrepreneur's self efficacy has a positive and significant effect on SMEs' external financing decisions 2) Subjective norms have no effect on SMEs' external financing decisions 3) Entrepreneurs' achievement motivation has a positive and significant effect on SMEs' external financing decisions, 4) Entrepreneur's self efficacy positive and significant effect on entrepreneurs' achievement motivation 5) Entrepreneurs' subjective norms have no effect on entrepreneurs' achievement motivation, 6) Achievement motivation plays a partial mediating role in the influence of entrepreneurs' self-efficacy on SMEs' external financing decisions 7) Entrepreneurs' achievement motivation plays a partial mediating role in the influence of entrepreneurs' subjective norms on decisions external financing of SMEs. Further research is expected to develop a model for SME external financing decisions with more emphasis on aspects of entrepreneurs' achievement motivation because it has been proven to increase the influence of entrepreneurs' self-efficacy and subjective norms on external financing decisions to increase business growth.
