"This religion and this nation were built with the black ink of scholars and the red blood of martyrs. Therefore, write as a form of Islamic economic jihad." (Keilmuan, 2018)

Research Day or which is an acronym for RD is one of the work programs of the Scientific Division in the field of exploring the ability to write scientific papers for Islamic economics students of the Faculty of Islamic Economics, Universitas Airlangga. RD is a forum for students who have an interest in Islamic economics to improve their intellectuality and abilities in the process of achieving a common goal of grounding Islamic economics in Indonesia through scientific writing. In 2018, RD collaborated with the Introduction to Islamic Economics course which included the assignment of writing a scientific paper. Welcoming with open arms, Ms. Ria as the PJMK of the PEI course was very enthusiastic and suggested that students taking the PEI course to participate in Research Day to practice their writing skills.

Taking the theme “Achieving Sustainable Development Goals Through Implementing The Maqashid Al-Shariah”, Research Day aims to increase the sensitivity and critical attitude of Islamic economics students regarding the topic that is currently being hotly discussed among Indonesian students who care about the welfare of the people to achieve a just economy. This year's RD was held on Monday, May 14, 2018 at the Mindrowo Hall of the Faculty of Economics and Business, Universitas Airlangga. Long before the main event was held, the assessment and selection of student papers had been carried out. There were 67 works that followed the committee's strict selection.

Unlike Research Days , this year's Research Day program included a full paper and final presentation. round , several Islamic economics students were not second-semester students taking the Islamic Economics course. There were also students who were writing and presenting in front of an audience. Anxiety, embarrassment, and fear were all part of the experience, as the RD finalists found presenting their written work very different from the usual classroom presentations.

The jury for the Research Day series, starting from the full paper selection to the final presentation, were Mr. Zakka Farisy (Ekis 2014), Mr. Muhammad Nabil (Ekis 2014), Mrs. Ria (PJMK PEI), Mr. Roby (EKIS Alumni and Lecturer at UIN Ampel Surabaya) and Mr. Eko Fajar Cahyono (PEI Lecturer). With a very strict selection, finally the three finalists with the best scores succeeded in becoming the champions of Research Day 2018. 1st place was won by Mr. Fatoni Mahendra's team (Ekis 2014), 2nd place was won by Zahro Ubaydilla's team (Ekis 2017), and 3rd place was won by Nur Azizah's team (Ekis 2017).

The expected outcome of Research Day is that Islamic economics students will be able to express their creative ideas and hone their writing skills from an early age. This aligns with the expectations of the Department of Islamic Economics, Faculty of Economics and Business, Universitas Airlangga which requires students to write journals as a graduation requirement. Furthermore, Research Day is expected to empower Islamic economics students to critically analyze current economic issues and seek solutions.
