Airpol 5.0 is an essay competition and national seminar held in Indonesia by the Political Science Student Association Universitas Airlangga. This year's Airpol essay competition focused on the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on Indonesia's political and economic outlook. Dzikri Nurrohman, Widiyanti Ayu Nilasari, and Syifa Philai Sophia, undergraduate Islamic Economics students, won third place in the event.
Starting with a desire to fill their holiday time, these three friends searched for information on essay competitions to enter. Syifa's friend explained that the reason she chose the essay competition was because it was easier to write. Dzikri and his two friends carefully and well-crafted their essay and then submitted it. They themselves didn't expect to be finalists.
The next stage was creating a presentation video, which was a challenge for them. "Initially, we had quite a bit of difficulty making the video because none of us were skilled at video editing. However, we realized that this was the right moment to learn something new. We tried to create a video with the best concept possible," said Syifa. As a result, Alhamdulillah, on February 20th, their team, Team Go Ahead, won third place and received a certificate of appreciation and cash of Rp. 500,000
This competition left a special impression on Syifa and her two colleagues, as it was their first time winning a national essay competition. "This certainly inspires us to continue working and achieving. We also hope this victory will motivate our friends to continue filling their free time with productive activities and maintain a passion for creativity."
Syifa, Dzikri, and Widya also stated that their goal in highlighting the potential of Islamic economics to improve public welfare amid the COVID-19 pandemic was to promote Islamic economics to the general public and raise awareness of its crucial role in national economic development.
