(FEB NEWS) The Faculty of Economics and Business, Universitas Airlangga (FEB UNAIR) held the second Open House and Socialization of the Doctoral Program in Islamic Economics on Tuesday, April 15, 2025. This event is part of an ongoing effort to introduce the Doctoral Program in Islamic Economics to the wider public, while also socializing various academic opportunities and scholarships for prospective students interested in continuing doctoral studies in Islamic economics.
This activity was opened with remarks from Dr. Wisnu Wibowo, SE, M.Si., as Vice Dean I of FEB UNAIR, delivered via video broadcast. In his remarks, he emphasized the importance of the role of higher education in encouraging the birth of new thinkers in the field of Islamic economics, and warmly welcomed the participation of cross-institutional participants in this activity.
This event presented two main speakers, namely Prof. Dr. Raditya Sukmana, SE, MA, as Head of the Doctoral Program in Islamic Economics, FEB UNAIR, and Dr. Dahlia Bonang, SEI, M.Si., Lecturer at the Faculty of Islamic Economics and Business, UIN Mataram and alumnus of the Doctoral Program in Islamic Economics, FEB UNAIR. Prof. Raditya opened the presentation session with a comprehensive presentation on the curriculum structure, mentoring system, academic facilities, and the track record of the FIBAA international accreditation that this program has achieved. He also emphasized the excellence of UNAIR's collaborative academic atmosphere and support for scientific publications in reputable journals.
The main session was delivered by Dr. Dahlia Bonang who shared her personal experience during her doctoral studies. She explained her initial motivation for choosing UNAIR as a place for further study, including its institutional reputation, flexible study system, and supportive lecturer guidance. In her presentation, Dr. Dahlia emphasized the importance of having a clear vision and goals from the beginning of the study, including readiness in preparing a mature research proposal that is relevant to contemporary issues in Islamic economics.
Furthermore, Dr. Dahlia outlined strategies for completing studies on time in just five semesters. She shared tips such as establishing effective communication with promoters, maintaining consistent writing, and actively participating in scientific forums both nationally and internationally. She also emphasized the importance of recognizing potential burnout and building mental resilience, while maintaining academic and spiritual enthusiasm as pillars of success in doctoral studies.
Furthermore, Dr. Dahlia shared tips for publishing in Scopus-indexed journals, including techniques for managing literature reviews, identifying credible journals, and designing research with a strong and applicable structure. She emphasized that publication is not an obstacle, but rather an integral part of the process of self-development as an academic and researcher.

The event was attended by dozens of participants from various higher education institutions in Indonesia, not limited to UNAIR academics. Some participants came from Bandung State Polytechnic, STAIN Mandailing Natal, IIQ Jakarta, and UIN Sunan Kalijaga Yogyakarta. With this activity, FEB UNAIR hopes to provide a more comprehensive picture of the doctoral study process, while also building a communication network between study program managers and prospective students. This socialization will be an inspiring and informative space, especially for those who want to contribute to the development of Islamic economics through doctoral education — while expanding access to quality and inclusive higher education for all groups.
