Sustainable Innovation Platform: From Cascara to the “Kind of Bloom” Idea

The Al Fattah team proposed a business idea called Kind of Bloom. They successfully processed cascara, a typically underutilized coffee husk waste, into an aesthetically pleasing herbal drink with high economic value and environmental friendliness. As a result, using a green innovation approach, the idea captured the judges' attention from the outset.
Al Fattah team leader Mashayu Aulia Zahrina explained that her primary focus was to create a business that was not only financially viable but also beneficial, positively impacting the economy, society, and environment. Through this innovation, they utilized agricultural waste to create a valuable product.

The Al-Fattah Team Proves They Are Not Just Champions, But the Real Reality of a Sustainable Green Economy

This victory certainly didn't come overnight. The Al Fattah team had to go through a long process that demanded precision and creativity, from designing a business model, conducting market research, developing an implementation strategy, and presenting their idea to a panel of judges. "We learned a lot about research, delivering presentations, and building truly solid teamwork," said one team member.
Beyond winning, the Kind of Bloom idea opens up immediate opportunities for the community. This innovation has the potential to foster a new economic sector for coffee farmers and MSMEs. Furthermore, this activity can reduce agricultural waste that has not been optimally managed. Thus, this project not only excels in the competition but also has real prospects for implementation in the industrial world.

For the Al Fattah team, their achievements are highly relevant to several Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly those related to sustainable consumption and production, economic growth, and industrial innovation. This achievement is expected to inspire other students to continue working and creating innovations that benefit the wider community. The Faculty of Economics and Business, UNAIR, has once again proven its quality as a home for a creative, competitive, and globally competitive young generation.
