The story by Volunteer of Athlete Village and Services Kemayoran Jakarta, 18 th Asian Games 2018 Jakarta Palembang

It was such a great experience and a big honour to join the second
biggest multi-sport event in the world. These event called the 18 th Asian Games
2018. I will start this with the amazing opening ceremony as great as you
watched at television. Those celebration held on Aug 18, 2018 from 7 p.m till 9
p. It’s located in Gelora Bung Karno Main Stadium. I was on there at GBK Row
20 Zone 2 Door 4 at Category A Lower Right and I enjoyed every second the
opening ceremonies from start till end. We can see the cultures of Indonesia
from Sabang to Merauke, from Miangas to Rote Island. People know the best
traditional dance from Aceh called Tari Saman. But I will say that some people
haven’t know yet that Tari Saman is welcoming dance which did by the boys.
So, the one I will tell you that in the Asian Games Opening Ceremony, those
dance called Tari Ratoe Jaoh from Aceh. These welcoming dance from Aceh did
by the girls. It continued by Tari Sipitu Cawan, Gending Sriwijaya, Tari Piring,
Transisi Bunga, Lenong Betawi and Jaiponga, Kecak, till the Eastest part of
Indonesia. All of the people are happy, enjoy, and enthusiast to begin all of the
matches.
There are 4 deputies and many departments by INASGOC (Indonesian
Asian Games Organizing Comittee). I joined as a volunteer at Athlete Villages
(AV) and Services department. There are 7 towers overthere. I as in-charge at
3 rd Tower. There are 45 countries which brought contingent and stayed at AV.
In 3 rd Tower filled by India, Uzbekhistan, Kazakhstan, and Iran which is 1950
persons at those tower. Every tower contained 24-32 floors. 2 nd Tower to 7 th
Tower by athletes and 1 st Tower filed by INASGOC, vendors, sponsorship,

contractor, and the other partner. We started at Aug 10, 2018, even the
normally job started at Aug 18, 2018. Some of sports held early and the
athletes came early too in Indonesia. We are as a volunteer have the role to
give services and the best hospitality to the athletes, NOC, and the VIP guest
even. There are 3 parts of Volunteer, the first one is a Liaison Officer whic was
wearing the red cloths that gave services to the athletes, then the second is
NOC-Assistant which was wearing the yellow cloths that gave service to NOC,
and the third is Protocol Assitant which was wearing the blue cloths that gave
service to the VIP guest like President OCA, president or the other excellency.
The daily activities were divided by 3 shifts. The morning shifts worked
at 6 a.m to 2 p.m, the noon shift worked at 2 p.m to 10 p.m, and the night shift
worked at 10 p.m to 6 a.m. Every single shift contains 8 hours. In the morning,
the athletes prepared to go the venue (Cluster 1: GBK, Cluster 2: Jiexpo, Cluster
3: JCC, Cluster 4: Palembang (I worked only Jakarta)). Before went to the
venues, the athletes have to breakfast at the Dining Hall. The volunteers from
Catering Department was in-charge overthere. Then, they were go to Bus
shelters and volunteers of Transportation Department helped them to venue
by shuttle bus. In the noon, most of the athletes are in the venue. Some of
them like the weather, so they were training and burn out their body in the
field. Then, in the night, there is a place called Ampitheatre, many art and
performance showed. The athletes enjoy it every second, everyone can
karaoke, dance, and interact each other with many athletes from other
country before they back to the match the next day. The volunteers accomany
them at Ampitheatre from 5 p.mm to 9 p.m. Then, the athletes have to take a
rest and the volunteers back in their tower.

We worked in 18 days, and we end by Closing Ceremonies. It was so
great show, there so many artist, from local and foreigner. The most people
want to see are Super Junior and Icon. Indonesia has done the job as host-
country of this event. Thank you for Olympic Councils of Asia that believing
